2024 is an important year for Calderdale and its towns. It will be 50 years since our distinctive borough was formed. To mark this momentous occasion, the Council, communities and local organisations got together in 2018 to develop our Vision 2024, setting out our joint aspirations for Calderdale on its 50th birthday. So much has been achieved since then.
Now it’s not long to go until 2024, so it’s time for a Vision refresh. Time to think about our hopes and aspirations for Calderdale in 2034, when the borough will celebrate its 60th birthday.
We’re working together with partner organisations and residents and communities to set our Vision for 2034, and this includes gathering people’s stories and experiences of life in Calderdale and dreaming about Calderdale in 2034.
Technology and data already underpins much of everyday life, from leisure, business, healthcare and the economy, and the current pace of change can play a big part in the development of Calderdale as a place between now and 2034. In the spirit of 'Tech for Good’, this workshop as part of the Wuthering Bytes festival provides an opportunity to explore how we can collaborate on the use of technology and data to effect deliberate, positive social, economic and environmental benefit, to inform and realise our Vision 2034.

Bridge Rectifier is a co-operative hackerspace — a.k.a. hacklab, hackspace or makerspace — located in Hebden Bridge. We have a workshop at 2-4 Stubbing Holme Road (just opposite Whitehead's scrapyard entrance), with facilities that include hand tools, soldering equipment and a laser cutter. Members interests and activities are varied and include electronics, programming, mechanical design, science, art, craft and right to repair.
On Wednesday 30th August we will be hosting an open evening to coincide with Wuthering Bytes and all are welcome, whether potentially interested in joining Bridge Rectifier or just in town for the festival and you'd like to say hello!
Please note that booking is not necessary.
Fancy learning a new skill? Want access to a high quality laser cutter? Come along to a free workshop at Bridge Rectifier to learn basic computer-aided design and laser cutting. No previous experience or equipment needed!
This introduction aims to introduce people to the software and methods used for laser cutting, and showcase potential ideas that people can apply later - to a wide range of artistic or technical projects using similar equipment.
Five sessions are being hosted throughout the day, with the first starting at 10:00 and and the last at 15:30.
There is no charge for taking part, but registration is required!
