Open Innovation and The Power of Connection

May 30, 2024

We are delighted to announce that two more talks have been confirmed for Festival Day!

Paul Connell founded Open Innovations in 2013 with the mission to create a place and community to unleash the power of open data and deliver innovation across the region. He is an entrepreneur who also co-founded The Data City, a data-as-a-service company, whilst running his own innovation company. Paul originally trained as an environmental scientist and worked for British Coal, ICI and leading global consultancies and clients for nearly 20 years, before transitioning to applying his skills in the domains of smart cities, open data, and open innovation. In his talk Paul will be telling the story of a non-profit, completely self-funded, pioneering data institution which ended up influencing government departments at the highest level.

Emily Webber is an independent organisational consultant, coach, trainer and speaker. She focuses on creating environments where people thrive so that organisations can thrive, working with organisations worldwide in the public and private sectors to create conditions that enable effective collaboration and iterative, user-focused delivery. Emily is known internationally for her work on communities of practice, illustrated in her book Building Successful Communities of Practice and collaboration tools, such as The Team Onion. In her talk, Emily will share some of her experience of building communities of practice for around 20 years, how she brought them into the workplace and the power they have to support people, grow confidence and skills, bridge knowledge, create the space for collaboration across silos and generally make people happier.
