Shortwave Collective & Braille Linux Workstation

April 18, 2023

We are thrilled to announce that two more talks have been confirmed for Festival Day!

Members of Shortwave Collective, an international group of people interested in feminist practices and the radio spectrum, will be giving a talk on their DIY making and listening processes, centred upon the ‘Open Wave-Receiver’, a feminist re-interpretation and reclamation of foxhole radio technology used by soldiers during wartime.

Ed Rogers of Bristol Braille Technology meanwhile will be talking about the Canute Console, a full-page refreshable Braille Linux workstation, which builds on Open Source applications to equalise the playing field for blind programmers. In this talk attendees will be invited to consider how their applications and projects could work with minimal adaptations for blind people in this exciting new field of computer science.
